Education and Cultural Committee

The Education and Cultural Committee is responsible for providing educational and cultural programs/activities for the Association’s members and the wider community.

The Education and Cultural Committee involves supporting the educational needs of the African and Caribbean community. We commit ourselves to ensuring the committee contributes to the organization’s overall goals and vision of increasing its, social, political and economic profile through our collaboration with the other committees and the board of directors.

We are involved in planning and hosting such events as the JCA Scholarship Awards Dinner and Dance, the Spelling Bee of Canada, Black History Month and the Health Fair.

The committee also oversees the operation of the Saturday Morning Tutorial Program (SMTP), which provides homework assistance for students in grades 1 – 12.

Tutors/Teachers (SMTP) Volunteers
The Saturday Morning Tutorial Program (SMTP) is a weekly homework assistance program supporting students from grades 1 – 12. We are seeking committed tutors/teachers who are passionate about teaching and student improvement. The focus areas are Mathematics, French, EQAO testing, English Language, Arts, Social Studies and Sciences. Tutors must be able to provide subject guidance, weekly progress report and respect for individual student’s development. This is a great opportunity for students, people who are interested in a career in teaching, newcomers, retired people and anyone who has the knowledge and communication skills to help young people improve their skills.
