JCA host its annual fundraising walkathon, “Walk Good 2011”

TORONTO, ON – April 14, 2011 – The Jamaican Canadian Association (The JCA) in an historical community collaboration with fifteen community organizations will host its annual fundraising walkathon, “Walk Good 2011,” under the theme: “Walking for a Brighter Future.” The event is schedule for Sunday, May 1, 2011 starting at 8:00am.

The fundraising goal is to raise an unprecedented $100,000 dollars or more to support such JCA initiatives as the Scholarship Fund, the Saturday Morning Tutorial Program, and The Building Fund in addition to the many initiatives of the community organizations involved. “I am delighted to Chair this 2011 Walk Good Event. This year we have 15 organizations in the community joining us to raise funds for our many and community initiatives that will benefit us all. We are indeed powerful and together we are Talllawah,” said the Chair of the event, Sandra Whiting.

We are pleased to have the following organizations participate and support our initiative. As commented by Audrey Campbell, President of JCA, “As a community, it is imperative that we support each other, and over the years the various community organizations have doubled and tripled. We undoubtedly believe that through this combined effort we will achieve and exceed our goal”. The organizations involved include The Alliance of Jamaican Alumni Associations (Toronto) Markham African Caribbean Association, Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton, Ontario Black History Society (OBHS) Collective of Black Artists (COBA) PACE Canada (Project for Advancement of Childhood Education), The Congress of Black Women of Canada (Ajax/Pickering Chapter), The Sickle Cell Association of Ontario, The Congress of Black Women of Canada (Mississauga Chapter), Spelling Bee of Canada, Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces
Foundation, Tropicana Community Services and Black Business and Professional Association (BBPA). Each organization will also be raising funds for their organization.

“Walk good” is adopted from the well wishes often expressed by the late Honourable Mrs. Louise Bennett Coverly and is part of the JCA campaign theme for the annual fundraising walkathon:”Walk Good – Walking for a brighter future”. Registration and breakfast starts 8:00am, Interfaith Service at 9:30am and the walk/dance begins at 10:00am sharp. Participants are asked to have a minimum $100.00 pledges.
