It was a great day as the JCA hosted their International Women’s Day Celebration 2016 !

COMMUNITY AWARD RECIPIENT: JANET NEILSON
Janet Neilson is the Vice President of Business Development for TMG Branding Inc., a full service brand building, activation, licensing, marketing, social and digital media company. Janet is responsible for the overall management of TMG Branding’s business development, revenue generation and strategic partnerships development and management. She has an extensive background in Program Management and Development and Non-profit Management.
Janet has combined her interest in human rights, gender equality and social change with her passion for working with women through the initiation of the Violence Against Women (VAW) Program at the Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA), during her tenure as Executive Director. This program supports women who have been abused. She also sat on the Ontario Women’s Directorate Allocation Committee for the Sexual Assault and Wife Assault Campaigns. In addition, Janet’s commitment to promoting and empowering women, locally and nationally, stems from her involvement over the years with the JCA’s Women’s Committee and her participation in the planning of the first Black Women’s Health Fair in 1993.
Also known for her community involvement, Janet is a member of the Economic Working Group of Black Creek West Community Capacity Building Project and sits on the ACCESS Community Capital Fund, Black Creek Chapter, of the Loan Review Committee (Micro Business Lending), as Chair. Recently, she was involved with York University designing, planning and facilitating a series of community consultations on micro business lending in the Black Creek West Community (including the Jane and Finch area).
She has been volunteering at the JCA for over 25 years and has worked on numerous committees, including Bingo, Annual Golf Tournament and the Annual Walk-A-Thon.

Jean Augustine PC CM CBE (born September 9, 1937 in St. George's, Grenada) is a Grenadian/Canadian educational administrator, advocate for social justice, and politician. She is the first African 
Canadian woman to be elected to the Canadian House of Commons and the first to serve in the federalCabinet.
Mary Anne Chambers, OOnt is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. She was a member of the 
Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 until 2007, and served in the cabinet in the government 
of Premier Dalton McGuinty.
