Social Services

The JCA continues to provide the following social services to the community at large.

  • Employment services are client centered and resources can be obtained through our Resource and Information Centre for the employed, under-employed, job seekers, students, laid off workers, apprentices, internationally trained and employers. Employment services include assistance with job search, job matching, and job placement, in addition to training and retention.

  • Our Settlement Program is aimed at assisting newcomers to Canada and individuals who require assistance with the settlement process in Canada. Clients receive support and information on issues of employment, housing, education, family sponsorship and other related services.

  • The Caribbean Canadian Seniors Club (CCSC) is a program where members meet weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program offers interaction and a variety of activities for seniors.

  • The Violence Against Women program provides support to women and children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence. The program assists women and children to live a life free from violence through individual, group and crisis counseling, legal and parenting support. Safety planning and lifestyle management are also included in the program.

The following five programs are geared towards assisting youth:

  • Leaders in Partnership (LIP) program is a 10-week social activity program in collaboration with the schools and Toronto Police 31 Division. The program is designed to address the social and emotional needs of children in developing a more positive attitude towards school and their community.

  • The K-Club offers individual and group counseling, anger management, conflict resolution, advocacy and related issues for clients aged 16 to 25.

  • The Parenting Program provides individual support, family mediation, mobile crisis counseling, and crisis intervention to individuals and families. The program is also involved in referrals to community resources, dealing with custody issues, visitations, home assessments, family court parental assessments and advocacy.

  • The Youth Outreach Worker program is aimed at engaging and connecting youth between the ages of 12 to 21 with needed services and collaborates with other community resources within identified neighborhoods.

  • The Saturday Morning Tutorial program (SMTP) is a weekly program supporting students from grades 1 -12.
