JCA Mourns the Loss of Jack Layton

Toronto, ON – August 23, 2011 – Members of The Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA) mourn with the rest of Canada at the death of New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jack Layton on Monday August 22, 2011.

Mr. Layton was a friend to the JCA and a friend who treated our community with respect and honesty. He will be missed by us all, no matter what our political association.

His strong values, strength, devotion to the Canadian people and to public service will not be forgotten. Even in his final hours, he wrote a letter of encouragement, hope and optimism to all Canadians. He thought of his fellow Canadians to his last breath and will always be an example of how one should and can contribute to the betterment of one’s nation.

Our deepest sympathies go to his family, wife Olivia Chow, another friend of the community and to his children Sarah and Michael Layton.

They may be assured that our hearts and prayers are with them in this time of grief.

May our friend Rest in Peace.

President
