Jamaica 50th Flag Raising

The Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA) in collaboration with the City of Toronto celebrates Jamaica’s 50th year of Independence with a Flag Raising Ceremony to be held at Toronto City Hall on Sunday August 5th at 12:30pm.

The event will start with a processional march which will be followed by the Flag Raising Ceremony. The march will start at the Old Court House, proceed west on Albert Street, move across Bay Street and unto Nathan Phillip Square, arriving at Toronto City Hall to commence the Flag Raising presentation. A partnership has been forged with the Jamaican Ex-Soldiers, Toronto Police Service, Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers (ABLE), and the Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinders to march in this event. Dwight Drummond of CBC News Toronto will host the event.

For over thirty years the JCA has presented this ceremony, as a proud acknowledgement of Jamaica’s Independence on August 6, 1962. According to JCA’s President, Audrey Campbell, “This event in an historical milestone in our country’s history and should not be missed”. The Independence Church Service follows immediately after at The Revival Time Tabernacle, 4340 Dufferin Street at Finch Avenue at 3pm.
