JCA PRESIDENT – Adaoma Patterson

Adaoma Patterson was born & raised in Winnipeg but spent several years in Jamaica attending Vas Prep School. She is currently Advisor – Peel Poverty Reduction Strategy in the Human Services Department, responsible for leading the implementation of a three-year community strategy.

 Adaoma was previously the Executive Secretary on the board of directors of JCA, lead the recent transformation of JCA, and has been a member for more than 15 years. She was a 2010 DiverseCity Fellow, one of 25 emerging leaders in the GTA and a member of the Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance’s Steering Committee & a former federal NDP candidate. She is the proud mother of a 14 year-old son.

JCA VICE-PRESIDENT – Renea Douglas

“I grew up in Hayes, Clarendon Jamaica and migrated to Canada 11 years ago. I currently work as a Project Document Management Administrator in the Construction Industry. I also have a background in Information Technology, Personal Banking Officer and Teaching.

I truly believe in service to humanity; as such, I am a supporter of organizations that have programs geared towards giving back to communities and in helping through education. I am a member of various organizations which share my passion of self-less service. I am honored to be serving on the JCA Executive Board.”

JCA EXECUTIVE SECRETARY – Taborah Campbell (Honours BHS, Specialization in Health Policy)

Taborah was born in Montreal, Quebec to Jamaican immigrant parents and spent the majority of her youth in Ottawa, Ontario. In her early teens her family moved to Toronto (in the Jane & Tretheway area).  Growing up in Toronto Taborah experienced many challenges including poverty, discrimination and a secondary school system that didn’t do much to equip her for success.

With the right people in her corner she overcame these challenges and went on to attend Humber College’s Public Relations Diploma program and went on to work in the Not-for-Profit sector.

Contemplating a career change she went back to school and in 2015 she graduated with Honours from York University’s Bachelor of Health Studies program, with a specialization in Health Policy. While studying at York she was a member of The Faculty of Health’s – Student Council Committee, a Student Health Ambassador, and an employee at the University; all while raising a toddler as a sole-support parent.

Taborah is very excited for the opportunity to join the JCA family and to assist them with their Administrative / Secretarial, Advocacy and Event needs during her term.

JCA TREASURER – Glenroy Williams

Glenroy Williams, MBA, B.A., currently serves as an Operator with Maple Leaf Food, Canada. Previous to that he was the Inventory Associate with Wal-Mart, Senior Management Accountant at the National Housing Trust (JA) (1993-2000); Senior Accountant, Coffee Industry Board (1986-1993), and Senior Accountant, Electrical Manufacturers Jamaica Ltd (1979-1986).

A proactive and solutions oriented professional bringing 20 plus years of experience in various areas of finance, accounting, and auditing, covering strategic financial processes, systems implementations, analysis and complex reporting in both the public and private sectors. Possess excellent financial acumen, complemented by a talent for successfully leading key projects and spearheading new process enhancements that improve operational efficiency and accuracy. A consummate professional with an engaging communication style that builds rapport in the team.

He is proficient in use of Quick books, Simple accounting, and Accpac software. Excellent computing skills in the use of Microsoft products(Excel, Word); Team player, dependable, and experience in working in a fast paced environment; Excellent analytical, research, and project management skills.

JCA DIRECTOR OF FUNDRAISING – Gavene A. Gordon

Gavene Alicia Gordon; Jamaican by birth, a lover of life and values family. She has three (3) siblings and is viewed as the second mother to them. She enjoys giving back to society as she considers it a part of her social responsibility.

Gavene’s professional experience spans over twelve (12) years which has been garnered through working with Sandals Resorts International, Spanish Court Hotel and The Montego Bay Convention Centre. With this experience, Gavene is known as a hotelier and proficient in sales, food and beverage and customer service.

She is the holder of a B Sc. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of the West Indies and The University of Technology. She is presently perusing a Post Graduate Certificate in Global Business Management at Centennial College with the expected completion date of May 2018.

Gavene is a dedicated individual who believes in leading by example. She is principled, hardworking and is committed to any project she is a part of. Her continued success is contributed in her ability to positively influence the many teams she has worked with. She is enthusiastic, creative and a positive force and inspiration.

JCA DIRECTOR AT LARGE – Yolande Davidson

Yolande is a seasoned and dynamic public policy professional who uses creativity, strategy and acuity to bring information, people and results together. Through progressive roles in the Ontario Public Service, most recently as a Senior Manager in the Ministry of Community and Social Services, Yolande has demonstrated her skills as an expert planner, critical thinker and leader who delivers concrete outcomes.

In addition to her role with the JCA Board of Directors, Yolande has volunteered with young people in conflict with the law for nearly ten years. A believer in lifelong learning, Yolande’s academic credentials include undergraduate studies in Political Science at Queen’s University and graduate studies in Public Policy and Administration at York University.

As a proud Jamaican Canadian, Yolande is excited to contribute to the valuable work of the JCA, ensuring its continued legacy now and into the future.

Director at Large  – Michelle McKenzie-Dolly

michelle-dolly-picMichelle was born in Lucea, Jamaica and spent most of her adult life living in Montego Bay before arriving in Canada in 2010. She has a strong commitment to Community Development having participated in numerous community development initiatives / organizations, to include: National Housing Trust Joint Schemes Association, Social Development Commission and being an integral part of the Cornwall Court Citizens’ Association. As a School Guidance Counsellor she served as a Community Liaison Officer fostering the integration between the school and the wider community.
Her passion for Community Development led her to pursue higher education in this area. The journey led her to pursue a Masters Degree in Adult Education and Community Development at the University of Toronto OISE.
Michelle has been employed in the Peel Shelter Housing Services since 2010 and has served in several leadership roles leading to her current position of Director of Employee Relations.
Michelle is new to the JCA having focused on working full time and studying part time since her arrival. With the newcomer settlement phase almost complete, she has joined the JCA Team with a strong commitment to serving the community in this new capacity.

JCA DIRECTOR AT LARGE – Natalee Johnson

Natalee was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She arrived in Canada with her mother and siblings in 1985. Natalee believe in using her talents, gifts, knowledge and skills to serve others. She is passionate about building stronger communities through programming, networking, building partnership, policies and procedures, advocating and serving.  Over the many years, Natalee has volunteered within in various community organizations, both Not-for-Profit, private and corporate organizations.

She has worked in different sectors over the past years such as: Education, Youth Shelter, Not-For-Profit organizations, Customer Service, Children and Youth Programs, Family Centres and the Corporate sector. Natalee is committed, dedicated and passionate in serving in her community and believes in networking, making connections and working together make positive changes.

By serving as a JCA Board of Director, she will continue to build on the foundation that others have laid, use her transferable skills to serve members in JCA, the community and work in collaboration with other her fellow board members and other officials and organizations.
